Jóvenes en San Vicente se reúnen de nuevo / Youth in San Vicente meet again

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, meetings with high school scholars in San Vicente had been suspended. Today the group met again keeping their social distance. This space was used for the students to reflect on the challenges they have faced during these months. The promoter Alfredo López divided the participants into 5 working groups that answered 5 questions. Some of the responses are listed below:

 

What difficulties have you faced to continue studying remotely or by phone?

The signal is not that good. Teachers don’t respond quickly to our questions.

Some youth do not have a telephone or access to internet.

Internet and some colleagues did not have a telephone to send their study guides.

Not all of us have residential internet, the signal or not having a telephone.

Lack of resources to have internet, the signal and the lack of support from the teachers to complete the study guides.

 

Have your teachers talked with you about the virus and protection measures and about how your classes will continue in 2020?

We will continue studying by phone.

They have said we should keep our social distance and to stay at home.

They have not informed us about the virus and about the classes we have learned from the Minister of Education that the year will end virtually.

 

Have you noticed something different in your guardian / father / mother compared to before the health emergency?

Do they support you more in the activities that you do? Do they have more knowledge of what you do?

Now they are angrier than before.

They support us more and know what we do, but parents must also be understood because they care not only about us, but also about providing to our home.

They have more knowledge of what we do because they see us studying; but, at the same time, they get stressed because we don’t help them around the house.

It affected them emotionally, turning an atmosphere of anxiety.

They are more strict, preventive and have more knowledge about the pandemic.

 

Do you think that you, your family and your community have less fear than at the beginning of the emergency about contracting the virus or do you still feel threatened?

We feel even more threatened and afraid because people are resuming their normal lives and exposing themselves to being infected. The fear is that these people will infect us too.

We feel more threatened because everything has changed, we are no longer in quarantine. We do not know who we are going to run into on a bus or where we are going.

The fear is always felt, but the guard has been lowered since the sanitization points are no longer there.

Yes, because they do not follow the appropriate measures and the increase of the virus does not stop.

 

What institutions or people have come to your community to talk about this virus and about the protective measures to take?

Ministry of Health.

The National Civil Police together with the Health Unit have been controlling the use of a mask and social distancing.

No institution has come. We have learned through media such as radio and television.

No institution or person has come.

The Health Unit and the National Civil Police.

Dada la emergencia de COVID19, las reuniones con becarias y becarios de bachillerato en San Vicente habían sido suspendidas. El día de hoy el grupo volvió a reunirse manteniendo la distancia necesaria. Se utilizó el espacio para reflexionar sobre los retos que han enfrentado durante estos meses. El promotor Alfredo López dividió a la juventud participante en 5 grupos de trabajo que contestaron 5 preguntas. Algunas de las respuestas se consignan a continuación:

 

¿Qué dificultades han tenido para seguir estudiando a distancia o vía teléfono?

La señal no es muy buena. Los profesores no responden rápido a las preguntas.

Algunos jóvenes no tienen teléfono o acceso a internet.

Internet y algunos compañeros no tenían teléfono para enviar sus guías.

No todos tenemos internet residencial, por la señal o porque no todos contamos con un teléfono.

Falta de recursos para internet, la señal y la falta de apoyo de los maestros para orientarnos con las guías.

 

¿Sus maestras/os les han hablado sobre el virus y medidas de protección y sobre cómo seguirán sus clases en el año 2020?

Seguiremos vía teléfono.

Han dicho que tomemos medidas de distanciamiento social y que nos quedemos en casa.

Sobre el virus no nos han informado nada y de las clases hemos sabido por la ministra de educación, que se terminará el año de manera virtual.

 

¿Han notado algo diferente en su responsable/papá/mamá con respecto a antes de la emergencia sanitaria por el COVID19?

¿Los apoyan más en las actividades que ustedes realizan? ¿Tienen más conocimiento de lo que ustedes hacen?

Hoy son más enojados que antes.

Nos apoyan más y saben lo que hacemos, pero también hay que comprende a los padres porque se preocupan no solo por nosotros, sino por aportar al hogar.

Tienen más conocimiento de lo que hacemos porque nos ven estudiando; pero, a la vez, se estresan porque no les ayudamos en lo de casa.

Les afectó de manera emocional, convirtiendo un ambiente de ansiedad.

Son más estrictos, preventivos y tienen más conocimientos acerca de la pandemia.

 

¿Considera que usted, su familia y su comunidad tienen menos temor que al inicio de la emergencia de poder contraer el virus o siempre se sienten amenazados?

Nos sentimos aún más amenazados y con temor porque las personas están retomando su vida normal y exponiéndose a contagiarse. El temor es que esas personas nos contagien a nosotros también.

Nos sentimos más amenazados porque todo ha cambiado, ya no está la cuarentena. No sabemos con quién nos vamos a topar en algún bus o donde vayamos.

Siempre se siente el temor, pero se ha bajado la guardia ya que los puntos de sanitización ya no están.

Sí, porque no siguen las medidas adecuadas y el incremento del virus no cesa.

 

¿Qué instituciones o personas han llegado a su comunidad para hablar sobre este virus y también sobre las medidas de protección a tomar?

Ministerio de Salud.

La Policía nacional civil junto a la Unidad de salud han estado pendientes del uso de mascarilla y distanciamiento social.

No ha llegado ninguna institución. La hemos conocido por medios como radio y televisión.

Ninguna institución o persona se ha hecho presente.

La Unidad de Salud y la Policía Nacional Civil.
