ENHANCING YOUTH COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP / POTENCIANDO EL LIDERAZO COMUNITARIO DE LAS JUVENTUDES

(ESPAÑOL ABAJO) Last weekend, a gathering was held with young people from different communities of Suchitoto. It was organized and promoted by the youth secretariat of PROGRESO. A total of 34 young people who do not yet belong to any area of organizational work and others who are already part of Youth Committees, women’s committees, ADESCOS, water systems, and other spaces participated.

The activity was developed and facilitated in coordination with a group of students of social work of the Pedagogical University of El Salvador, who have been supporting community work of PROGRESO in recent months.

During the meeting, different playful collective learning techniques were used with the objective of promoting teamwork as one of the main axes of community organizing. This seeks to form new transformative leaderships, strengthening their capacities and abilities. After each technique, a small group reflection was carried out to explain what was intended to be achieved and how it is applied in real life.

In addition, working groups were formed to address issues of utmost importance and relevance such as the environment, community organizing and self-esteem. This was done through role-plays and plenary where each of the topics was socialized from the point of view of the youth and the reality that is lived in communities. The objective was to generate awareness on the topics discussed.

Finally, a space for sharing experiences was developed. It was in charge of three young leaders with long trajectory and experience in the topic of active participation of youth in decision-making spaces, youth community organizing and training other young leaders in their communities of origin. This space to share experiences through real stories of young leaders inspires other young people to stay and continue believing in community organizing as a fundamental element to achieve community development, but also to form and discover personal skills and abilities that contribute to their personal, academic and collective growth.

PROGRESO believes it is necessary to keep working and creating this type of spaces to strengthen and enhance youth leadership, thus promoting the participation of young people in decision-making spaces.

El pasado fin de semana se desarrollo un pequeño encuentro con jóvenes de diferentes comunidades de Suchitoto, el cuál fue organizado e impulsado desde la secretaría de juventud de la asociación PROGRESO. Participó un total de 34 jóvenes que aún no pertenecen a ninguna área de trabajo organizativo y otros que ya forman parte de Comités de Jóvenes, comités de mujeres, ADESCOS, sistemas de agua, y otros espacios.

La actividad fue desarrollada y facilitada en coordinación con un grupo de estudiantes de la materia de trabajo social III de la Universidad Pedagógica de El Salvador, quiénes han estado apoyando el trabajo comunitario de la asociación PROGRESO en los últimos meses.

En el encuentro se realizaron diferentes técnicas lúdicas de aprendizaje en colectivo con el objetivo de promover el trabajo en equipo como uno de los principales ejes de la organización comunitaria. El cual busca formar nuevos liderazgos transformacionales, potenciando sus capacidades y habilidades. Después de cada técnica se realizó una pequeña reflexión grupal para explicar lo que se pretendía alcanzar y como eso se aplica en la vida real.

Además, se hicieron grupos de trabajo para abordar temas de suma importancia y relevancia como el medioambiente, la Organización Comunitaria y la autoestima. Esto se realizó por medio de sociodramas y plenaria dónde se socializó cada una de las temáticas desde el punto de vista de las juventudes y la realidad que se vive en las comunidades, con el objetivo de generar Sensibilización y concientización sobre los temas tratados.

Finalmente, se desarrolló un espacio de compartir experiencias, el cuál estuvo a cargo de tres jóvenes líderes y lideresas con alta trayectoria y experiencia en el tema de la participación activa de las Juventudes en los espacios de toma de decisiones, desde la organización comunitaria de jóvenes y formando a otros jóvenes líderes en sus Comunidades de origen. Este espacio de compartir experiencias a través de historias reales de jóvenes líderes y lideresas inspira a otros jóvenes a quedarse y seguir creyendo en la organización comunitaria como un elemento fundamental para lograr desarrollo comunitario, pero también para formar y descubrir capacidades y habilidades personales que contribuyen a su crecimiento tanto personal, académico y colectivo.

Como PROGRESO creemos necesario apostarle y crear éste tipo de espacios para fortalecer y potenciar los liderazgos juveniles, fomentando así la participación de las y los jóvenes en los espacios de toma de decisiones.
