CRIPDES celebrates and honors the role of Rural women in the struggle for Social Justice

In the spirit of the International Day of Rural Women, with the support and accompaniment of U.S-El Salvador Sister Cities, the SHARE Foundationn among others, the National Women’s Roundtable organized this event on October 15, in which approximately 40 women from rural communities representing the 5 regions of CRIPDES gathered to share their knowledge, experiences and products in an exchange.

The main objective of this gathering was to honor and to recognize the contributions of organized rural women, and to highlight the challenges they face in the current reality. In addition, CRIPDES reaffirmed its commitment to continue contributing to the promotion of justice and equity for women.

The event began with a press conference to present the critical situation faced by rural women as a result of the pandemic and the actions of the central government. In addition, they shared a series of demands towards the central government:

• The reestablishment of institutions to ensure integrity of women.
• The application of the Special Integral Law for a Life Free of Violence for women.
• The approval of a water law that does not include a threat such as the privatization of water.
• The approval of a food security and sovereignty law.

During the event, women from the different regions presented their products from their kitchen gardens, economic initiatives, food and beverages made by women from the savings groups. They also sold their products, exchanged experiences and knowledge of preparation and organization.

CRIPDES has accompanied the formation and growth of each group present, which represented more than three thousand rural women in 238 communities in El Salvador.

The day ended with a tribute to Mother Earth by presenting an altar of organic products; furthermore, making a call for unity and organization of women to continue defending the rights of all.

CRIPDES CELEBRA Y HONRA EL ROL DE LAS MUJERES RURALES EN LA LUCHA POR LA JUSTICIA SOCIAL

En el marco del día Internacional de la Mujer Rural este 15 de octubre, un aproximado de 40 mujeres rurales de las 5 regiones de CRIPDES se reunieron para compartir sus conocimientos, experiencias y productos en un intercambio organizado por la Mesa Nacional de Mujeres con el apoyo y acompañamiento de Ciudades Hermanas El Salvador-Estados Unidos, la fundación SHARE, y entre otras.

Este encuentro tuvo como objetivo principal honrar y visibilizar los aportes de las mujeres rurales organizadas, y a la vez exponer los retos que éstas enfrentan en la coyuntura actual. Además, CRIPDES reafirmó su compromiso para seguir aportando y acompañando las luchas por la justicia y equidad de las mujeres.

La Mesa de Mujeres inició el evento con una conferencia de prensa para exponer la crítica situación que enfrentan las mujeres rurales como consecuencia de la pandemia por Covid19 y las medidas y políticas del gobierno central. Además, compartieron una serie de demandas exigiendo al gobierno lo siguiente:

• El restablecimiento de instituciones garantes de velar por la integridad de las mujeres
• La aplicación de la Ley Especial Integral para una Vida Libre de Violencia para las mujeres
• La aprobación de una ley de agua que no atente con la privatización del vital líquido
• La aprobación de la ley de seguridad y soberanía alimentaria.

En el intercambio, las mujeres de las regiones presentaron sus productos de huertos caseros, de iniciativas económicas, comidas y bebidas elaboradas por mujeres de los grupos de ahorro. Vendieron sus productos, intercambiaron experiencias y conocimientos de preparación y de organización.

CRIPDES  ha acompañado la formación y fortalecimiento de cada uno de los grupos presentes y que representan a más de 3 mil mujeres rurales en 238 comunidades de El Salvador.

La jornada finalizó con un homenaje a la madre tierra presentando un altar de productos orgánicos; además, haciendo un llamado a la unidad y organización de las mujeres para seguir defendiendo los derechos de todas.

Ciudades Hermanas El Salvador- Estados Unidos ha incorporado el acompañamiento al trabajo de CRIPDES con las mujeres rurales en su plan operativo 2022. Puede leer más aquí.
