2010 International CRIPDES Sistering Assembly

On March 26, we celebrated the 2010 International CRIPDES Sistering Assembly here in San Salvador with over 70 participants. Representatives attended from CRIPDES communities all over El Salvador, from the Madison, New Jersey and Lawrence Sister Cities committees, from Sister Parish, and from solidarity organizations in Bolivia, Spain and Norway. We came together to talk about sistering, share our exciting history, remember the message of Monsignor Romero, sing historic songs and talk about the current political situation.

Suyapa Ortega, the National Sistering Coordinator for CRIPDES, said the following: "We value our sister city relationships, not only because of the moral support and accompaniment relationship with our sisters now, but also because of our shared history and the struggle that we have developed together across borders over the last 25 years."

The assembly fulfilled our goal of providing an opportunity to come together to energize ourselves around sistering. Even though not all of our committees could participate, our representatives from Madison, New Jersey and Lawrence shined great light on Sister Cities. We hope to hold another International Sistering Assembly next year, when we celebrate Sister Cities' 25th Anniversary.

Thanks to Esther Chavez for sharing the history of Sister Cities with the group. And thanks to the Wichita, Chicago, Crystal Lake, Cambridge and Lawrence committees for sending letters to their sister communities in honor of the event. {mosimage}
