International Sistering Exchange

July 17-25 in El Salvador

In 2016, US-El Salvador Sister Cities, SHARE, and Salvaide celebrate over 30 years of international solidarity with CRIPDES and the Salvadoran social movement. As we look back and celebrate the advances and challenges, we also look forward to new strategies and new generations of leadership.

This week-long exchange will bring together historic solidarity founders as well as people just becoming involved to explore in-depth the issues most affecting Salvadoran people. We will also explore the creative strategies that CRIPDES, the largest rural grassroots organization in El Salvador, is implementing to address those issues. Together, generations new and old will build strategies to face this changing global context as international allies, and as brothers and sisters.

July 17-22: Regional Thematic Delegations

Choose one of three regional delegation options to visit sistered communities and explore some of the most pressing issues that CRIPDES is facing in this new national environment. You will get to visit a region of El Salvador with people from all over North America, learning from one another’s experiences with sistering.

July 22-25: INTERnational Gathering

Join us for this unprecedented celebration of international solidarity. The weekend will involve story telling from the key players involved in the founding of CRIPDES, strategy sessions, analysis from Salvadoran social movement leaders, and of course a big party!

NEW: International Youth Caucus

Solidarity organizations often aim to mirror CRIPDES as our mentor in community organizing, and right now CRIPDES is focusing much of its energy on building up the next generation of leaders to carry their work forward. We want to invite young people of all walks of life to join this celebration as members of the Youth Caucus and have their say in the new strategies for Sistering and Solidarity from 2016 forward! Ask us for more information if you´re interested.

Alright, I’m interested, now what?

  1. Write us to let us know you´re interested, that way you´ll be the first to know as more information becomes available! Email us at sistering2016@gmail.com
  2. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and barista about it! This is a great opportunity for people who are new to sistering to learn what it´s all about!
  3. Consider making a special donation to the Anniversary Fund to help bring both Salvadorans and strategic individuals with economic limitations from the US to the celebration.
