Labor day Statement: CRIPDES denounces intimidation and threats by the government against organized labor

On Thursday April 28th, during a press conference, the Minister of Labor said that May 1st marchers will be relatives, collaborators or financiers of criminal groups or gangs of El Salvador.

Other government officials have tweeted similar allegations.

After such allegations, CRIPDES released a statement to denounce this as intimidation and threats.

CRIPDES DENOUNCES INTIMIDATION AND THREATS BY THE GOVERNMENT AGAINST ORGANIZED LABOR AND THE GENERAL POPULATION.

The government of El Salvador, through the Minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, seeks to delegitimize the May 1st march that we, as working class and social organizations, carry out to demand better working and living conditions.

In a press conference Castro said that “those who go out to march, at any starting point, it is clear from the history of El Salvador that they are relatives, collaborators or financiers of criminal groups or gangs”.

Due to the threats that the government of El Salvador is making to the working class and social organizations that usually march on May 1st for  international Labor Day, we inform the international cooperation:

We strongly condemn the government’s labeling of the working class and organized unions as defenders of gangs, an action that is used as a strategy to dismiss the discontent that exists due to the policies promoted by the authoritarian government and to stop mobilization and social organization.

Under the exception regime, which has been extended for 30 more days, the government threatens to make arbitrary arrests of organized citizens who take to the streets to march.

The government’s threat restricts the freedom of organized unions to take to the streets peacefully to denounce the abuses of power and the democratic regression that is taking place in the country.

Likewise, we condemn the actions of the Attorney General of the Republic and the Legal Secretary of the Presidency, who are subjects to the dictatorial whims of the President of the Republic, failing to comply with the laws and international treaties that protect people to peacefully protest.

At the same time we inform the international cooperation that, in some of the communities, agents of the National Civil Police have already been present to intimidate our associates, for the mere fact of being organized people.

Therefore, we denounce to the international community, human rights organizations, and our cooperating partners to remain vigilant to any violation of rights to which we are exposed.

 

 

 

CRIPDES DENUNCIA INTIMIDACIÓN Y AMENAZA POR PARTE DEL GOBIERNO A LOS GREMIOS ORGANIZADOS Y A LA POBLACIÓN EN GENERAL.

Después de las declaraciones hechas por el Ministro de Trabajo, Rolando Castro, durante conferencia de prensa en el marco del 1 de mayo, CRIPDES denuncia intimidación y amenazas hacia la clase trabajadora y la población en general.

El gobierno de El Salvador a través del ministro de Trabajo, Rolando Castro, busca deslegitimar la marcha del 1 de mayo que como clase trabajadora y organizaciones sociales realizamos para demandar mejores condiciones laborales y de vida.

Castro sentenció en conferencia de prensa que “los que salgan a marchar, en cualquier punto de partida, queda claro que ante la historia de El Salvador que son familiares, colaboradores o financistas de los grupos criminales o pandillas”.

Ante las amenazas que el gobierno de El Salvador hace a la clase trabajadora y a las organizaciones sociales que acostumbradamente marchamos el 1 de mayo en el marco del día internacional del trabajo, informamos a la cooperación internacional:

Condenamos enérgicamente que el gobierno tilde a la clase trabajadora y gremios organizados como defensores de las pandillas, acción que es utilizada como una estrategia de humo para desestimar el descontento que existe en las políticas que impulsa el gobierno autoritario y frenar la movilización y la organización social.

Amparándose en el régimen de excepción, el cual se ha prorrogado por 30 días más, el gobierno amenaza con hacer capturas arbitrarias a los ciudadanos organizados que salgan a las calles a marchar.

La amenaza del gobierno coarta la libertad de los gremios organizados para salir a las calles pacíficamente para denunciar los abusos de poder y el retroceso democrático que se vive en el país.

Así mismo, condenamos el accionar del Fiscal General de la República y del Secretario Jurídico de la Presidencia, quienes se prestan a los caprichos dictatoriales del presidente de la república, incumpliendo las leyes y tratados internacionales que amparan a las personas a manifestarse pacíficamente.

Al mismo tiempo informamos a la cooperación internacional que en algunas de las comunidades ya se hicieron presentes agentes de la Policía Nacional Civil para amedrentar a nuestros asociados, por el solo hecho de ser personas organizadas.

Por lo tanto, denunciamos ante la comunidad internacional, organismos de derechos humanos y nuestros cooperantes que se mantengan vigilantes ante cualquier vulneración de derechos a las cuales estamos expuestos.
