After the Nayib Bukele administration declared a state of emergency on March 27 in response to the rise in homicides over a weekend, several human rights violations have been reported. In addition to the unjustified raid on PROCOMES yesterday (April 20) and the reports of arrest “quotas” imposed on police officers in places like Cinquera, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA reports the death of four people who were transferred to the Izalco prison. Three of their names were: José Jeremías Deleón Escamilla, Walter Vladimir Sandoval and Elvis Sánchez:

 

A young musician, a motorcyclist, an unemployed person and another dedicated to various trades are the four inmates held in the Izalco prison, in Sonsonate, who died during April in circumstances that have not been clarified by the authorities. The first death occurred on April 3; while the other three, between Friday the 15th and this Monday the 18th.

The four men had been captured in different parts of the country after the State of exception came into force, and at least three of them, according to their relatives, had no ties to gangs or were criminals.

 

The last of the deceased was Elvis Josué Sánchez Rivera, 22, who according to sources from the Jorge Mazzini hospital in the city of Sonsonate, was already dead when he arrived at the medical center accompanied by guards, on Monday afternoon.

The body of the young man was not sent for autopsy, confirmed sources from the Forensics Institute of Sonsonate. His body was handed over at the Mazzini hospital to funeral home personnel who transferred it to Santa María Ostuma, La Paz, where he was from.

According to the medical diagnosis delivered at the hospital, Elvis died of hypertension and his death was sudden; they initially told the family that he had died of covid-19 and that they would deliver the body packed. That was the reason to skip the autopsy.

 

The death certificate does not mention covid-19 as a cause of death. The young man’s body had a bruise on his back, his family assured.

Elvis was captured along with another person for the crime of illegal groups, on April 3, when he was about to play a soccer game in the village of San Antonio, in Santa María Ostuma. His arrest and subsequent death have been questioned by his relatives as they claim that he was a young man dedicated to working in agriculture and playing music.

They recalled that as a child he learned to play the guitar, clarinet and saxophone and that he entertained social and religious events in various Christian churches.

 

“He helped his parents to work the land, he was a very attentive young man, he did not mess with anyone. His life was taken away under an exception regime that has only persecuted whoever gets in its way and the innocents pay for the sins of the guilty” said a friend of him, who asked that his name not be used.

Elvis was buried yesterday in his native Santa María Ostuma.

Después de que el 27 de marzo el gobierno de Nayib Bukele decretara estado de excepción como respuesta al alza de homicidios durante un fin de semana, se han reportado varias violaciones de Derechos Humanos. Además del allanamiento injustificado a PROCOMES el día de ayer (20 de abril) y de los reportes de “cuotas” de arrestos impuestas a agentes policiales en lugares como Cinquera, LA PRENSA GRÁFICA reporta el fallecimiento de cuatro personas que fueron trasladadas al penal de Izalco. Tres de los nombres compartidos son: José Jeremías Deleón Escamilla, Walter Vladimir Sandoval y Elvis Sánchez:

Un joven músico, un motorista, un desempleado y otro dedicado a oficios varios son los cuatro reos que se encontraban recluidos en el centro penal de Izalco, en Sonsonate, que fallecieron durante abril en circunstancias que no han sido aclaradas por las autoridades de la Dirección de Centros Penales. El primer deceso ocurrió el 3 de abril; mientras que los otros tres, entre el viernes 15 y este lunes 18.

Los cuatro hombres habían sido capturados en distintos lugares del país tras la entrada en vigencia del régimen de excepción, y al menos tres de ellos, según afirman sus familiares, no tenían vínculos con pandillas ni eran delincuentes.

 

El último de los fallecidos fue Elvis Josué Sánchez Rivera, de 22 años, quien según fuentes del hospital Jorge Mazzini de la ciudad de Sonsonate, ya estaba muerto cuando llegó al centro médico acompañado por custodios, el lunes por la tarde,

El cadáver del joven no fue enviado a autopsia confirmaron fuentes del Instituto de Medicina Legal de Sonsonate. Su cuerpo fue entregado en el hospital Mazzini a personal de una funeraria que lo trasladó hacia Santa María Ostuma, La Paz, de donde era originario.

Según el diagnóstico médico entregado en el hospital, Elvis murió a causa de hipertensión y su muerte fue súbita; aunque inicialmente le dijeron a la familia que había fallecido de covid-19 y que entregarían embalado el cuerpo. Esa habría sido la razón para obviar la autopsia.

 

El documento de defunción no menciona covid-19 como causa de muerte. El cuerpo del joven tenía un hematoma en la espalda, aseguró su familia.

Elvis fue capturado junto a otra persona por el delito de agrupaciones ilícitas, el 3 de abril, cuando se disponía a jugar un partido de fútbol en el cantón San Antonio, de Santa María Ostuma. Su arresto y posterior deceso ha sido cuestionado por sus allegados ya que aseguran que era un joven dedicado a trabajar en la agricultura y a la música.

Recordaron que desde niño aprendió a tocar guitarra, clarinete y saxofón y que amenizaba eventos sociales y religiosos en varias iglesias cristianas.

 

“Él le ayudaba a sus padres a trabajar la tierra, era un joven muy atento, no se metía con nadie. Su vida fue arrebatada bajo un régimen de excepción que lo único que ha hecho es perseguir a quien se le ponga en el camino y han pagado justos por pecadores”, dijo uno de los allegados, quien pidió omitir su nombre.

Elvis fue sepultado ayer en su natal Santa María Ostuma.
