Access to water in Guajoyo / Apoyo para el acceso al agua en Guajoyo

The Guajoyo community has always had challenges providing access to water to all the people who live in its community. Although, originally, a water project was created to benefit the 4 communities that repopulated the area, the land in Guajoyo has different heights and the water does not arrive with the same pressure everywhere. The further away the communities are from the water source, the more precarious their situation. To this is added that the water source itself has been decreasing its flow due to burning and deforestation. Other people add that another factor that influenced such decrease in flow was the implementation of a project to make the water drinkable. They say that this technique, which requires cutting down the trees near the source, covers the vents and the water ends up coming out in other places.
Luckily for Guajoyo, the organization Living Water drilled two wells in the community. Guajoyo promised to build a pump so that people can easily use them.
Here comes the support of the Austin committee. Thanks to the funds they sent, CRIPDES San Vicente was able to organize a feasibility study, carry out bacteriological tests and finally put the pump that will run on electricity. The current Guajoyo board promised to build the booth in which the equipment will be protected. As seen in the photos, the project is almost complete and it is expected that electricity will soon be installed to help the entire community meet its need for water.

La comunidad de Guajoyo siempre ha tenido problemas para brindarle acceso a agua a todas las personas que habitan en su comunidad. A pesar de que, originalmente, se creó un proyecto de agua que beneficia a las 4 comunidades que repoblaron la zona, el terreno en Guajoyo tiene diferentes alturas y el agua no llega con la misma presión a todos lados. Entre más lejos de la fuente de agua están las comunidades, más precaria es su situación. A esto se le suma que la propia fuente de agua ha ido disminuyendo su caudal por las quemas y deforestación. Otras personas agregan que otro factor que influyó en la disminución del caudal fue la implementación de un proyecto para potabilizar el agua. Dicen que esta técnica, que requiere cortar los árboles cercanos a la fuente, tapa los respiraderos y provoca que el agua termine saliendo por otro lado.
Por suerte para Guajoyo, la organización Aguaviva perforó dos pozos en la comunidad. Guajoyo se comprometió a construir una bomba para que la gente pueda hacer fácil uso de ellos.
Aquí entra el apoyo del hermanamiento de Austin. Gracias a los fondos que enviaron, CRIPDES San Vicente fue capaz de organizar el estudio de factibilidad, hacer pruebas bacteriológicas y finalmente poner la bomba que funcionará con energía eléctrica. La actual junta de Guajoyo se comprometió a construir la caseta en la que el equipo quedará protegido. Como se ve en las fotos, el proyecto está casi completado y se espera que pronto se haga la conexión de energía que ayude a toda la comunidad a satisfacer su necesidad de agua.
