Honorable Milena Mayorga,

Our organization, the TPS National Alliance, sends our warmest regards.

Despite the fact that the Salvadoran community that benefits from TPS is experiencing moments of anguish and uncertainty, we have decided to organize and fight.

We have the right to remain in the country to which we have given the best years of our youth. We have earned permanent residency through sweat and honor.

That is our desire and our demand to the Salvadoran government: That it accompany us, without hesitation, in our effort to stay in the United States. We are sure that President Bukele shares that aspiration. This is what he expressed when we met with him and we asked him to request an extension for which we are very grateful.

However, we are concerned about the statements made on your Twitter account where you assert that “the heart of the new agenda with Washington is to explain to our fellow Salvadorans that our president is creating the conditions for their return.”

These statements have generated consternation and confusion in the TPS community and we request, in the most respectful way, a clarification because we do not want our goals to conflict with the goals of the government.

Our biggest dream is to stay in the United States because it is the best for our families, for our home country, and for our adoptive country.

Of course we share the aspirations to improve El Salvador so that no Salvadoran has to leave our beloved country to get out of poverty or flee from violence.

And of course we understand that, to achieve this goal, binational cooperation is necessary. But we don’t believe in absolute subordination. We believe in negotiation.

TPSianos and TPSianas* have a binational identity and we contribute to the well-being of both nations. We live in mixed families, with undocumented relatives, citizens, DACA recipients, permanent residents, TPSianos, and TPSianas. And we are able to speak for ourselves.

Within our organization people of all existing political tendencies coexist, but we have decided that the struggle to maintain TPS and obtain permanent residence is a matter of unity. We expect the same from the Salvadoran government and from all political forces. The defense of TPS and the fight for permanent residency should be a matter of national unity, not of discord and division.

At this time our legal team prepares to appeal the decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. But we also need to win in the Court of Public Opinion and for this we are visiting 32 states and 54 cities as part of the journey, Road to Justice.

We know that the battle is uphill, but if we win we will be able to look directly into the eyes of our children and tell them that we made it because we fought. And if we lose, we’re going to tell them it wasn’t because we didn’t fight. That is the best example we can give.

Madam Ambassador, we request a meeting as soon as possible, via zoom, with a delegation representing the TPS National Alliance to clarify your statements and to improve our coordination and collaboration because we have not doubts that we share the same goals.

If you need more information, do not hesitate to contact us.

Respectfully,
