I am now ten days back from the recent Guajoyo-Austin delegation trip. And though back into a routine here, I find myself thinking often of the visit and the wonderful people of El Salvador. I am very thankful to Mario Guevara, of U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities and Lurvi of CRIPDES. The trip would not have been possible without them, and their friendliness, experience and knowledge were such a bonus and made the time so very enjoyable!

My involvement with Sister Cities has spanned many years, I have spent time with staff and delegates from Guajoyo during their past trips to Austin. I participated in a Sister Cities National Convention, but there is absolutely nothing to compare to being with my brothers and sisters of Guajoyo in Guajoyo.

Everyone was so welcoming and extremely thoughtful. We attended several committee meetings and the commitment of the participants to listen and to work together for the best of the community is inspiring. I have long been impressed with the Sister Cities model but even more now that I have witnessed it in action. I am very grateful that the people of Guajoyo have both Sister Cities and CRIPDES working alongside them.

Hace diez días regresé de mi viaje a Guajoyo con la delegación de Austin. Y, aunque haya regresado a la rutina de aquí, a menudo me encuentro pensando en nuestra visita y la maravillosa gente de El Salvador. Estoy muy agradecida con Mario Guevara, de Ciudades Hermanas y Lurvi de CRIPDES. El viaje no habría sido posible sin ellos. Y su amistad, experiencia y conocimiento fueron un agregado e hicieron nuestra estancia más disfrutable.

Mi involucramiento con Ciudades Hermanas lleva muchos años. He compartido con el equipo y delegadas/os de Guajoyo en viajes realizados a Austin. He participado en la Convención Nacional de Ciudades Hermanas, pero no hay nada comparable a estar con mis hermanas y hermanos de Guajoyo en Guajoyo.

Todos fueron tan acogedores y extremadamente considerados. Asistimos a varias reuniones de comités y fue inspirador el compromiso de los participantes para escuchar y trabajar juntos por el bienestar de la comunidad. Desde hace mucho me ha inspirado el modelo de Ciudades Hermanas, pero ahora aún más al verlo en acción. Estoy muy agradecida porque la gente de Guajoyo tiene tanto a Ciudades Hermanas como a CRIPDES trabajando con ellos.
