New scholarship recipients in San Vicente / Nuevas becarias y becarios en San Vicente

Yesterday, new young men and women attended Cripdes San Vicente’s meeting to become new scholarship recipients. They are taking the places of those who graduated last year.
They were accompanied by their relatives and, in some cases, by community board members. The three of them signed an agreement that states that these youth are expected to have good grades and also support community projects. In exchange, they received $50 dollars to help them purchase materials for the new year and also to cover the expenses to move to their schools. Many of the attendants expressed how grateful they were for this financial aid.
This financial support has been provided by U.S. El Salvador Sister Cities for many years now. The scholarships in the San Vicente region are funded by the Austin and Philadelphia committees.
El día de ayer un grupo nuevo de jóvenes asistió a la asamblea de Cripdes San Vicente para convertirse en nuevas becarias y becarios, tomando el lugar de aquellos que se graduaron el año pasado.
Estuvieron acompañados por sus parientes y, en algunos casos, por miembros de las juntas comunales. Las tres partes firmaron un convenio que específica que este grupo debe mantener buenas notas y que también ha de apoyar proyectos en la comunidad. A cambio de esto, recibieron 50 dólares para ayudar en la compra de materiales para su nuevo año de estudio y también para ayudarles a moverse a sus centros escolares. Muchas y muchos de los asistentes expresaron su gratitud por este apoyo económico.
La red de ciudades hermanas ha apoyado de esta forma durante muchos años. Las becas en la región de San Vicente son financiadas por los comités de Austin y Filadelfia.
