Help bring a Salvadoran Delegation to Honduras for the Primaries Nov.18th!

Donate Now to Make this Election Observation Delegation Possible!

Support Sister Cities in our effort to bring representatives of the Salvadoran social movement to support their Honduran brothers and sisters and serve as international observers during Honduras’ primary election on November 18th,  when supporters of LIBRE, the party of the nonviolent National Front for Popular Resistance (FNRP) will chose its candidates for the 2013 presidential and legislative election.

With your contribution, members of the Popular Revolutionary Movement October 12 (MPR-12) will accompany and share experiences with the FNRP of how the Salvadoran social movement dealt with governmental repression during and after the war and worked to strengthen democratic institutions.

The MPR-12 alliance was formed on 12 October 2002, in the heat of the protests against CAFTA, the privatization of health, water and other neoliberal policies which threaten national independence and the life and dignity of the Salvadoran population. The MPR-12 alliance unites the Association for the Development of El Salvador (CRIPDES), the Foundation for Cooperation and Community Development of El Salvador (CORDES), the Association for Human Aid (PROVIDA), the Coordinating Association for Community Development (CCM), the Salvadoran Federation for Agrarian Reform (CONFRAS), unions and youth alliances.

Why observing the Primaries is so important:

Four LIBRE primary candidates have been killed to date and violence against FNRP activists and members is continues every day in an environment of total impunity. The U.S. government has continued the economic and political support of the regime of de facto President Pepe Lobo despite ongoing human rights violations against members of the FNRP and the LIBRE party.

As those who accompanied the Salvadoran people during times of repression and war know very well, international accompaniment can and does save lives.

The Honduras Solidarity Network Election Delegation: Nov. 16-19

Delegates from around North America and our Salvadoran group will arrive on Nov. 16. They will receive a briefing on the state of human rights in the context of the election and training on accompanying the voting on Nov. 18. They will participate in scheduled meetings with FNRP member groups and on election day will be divided in small groups to monitor human rights at several Tegucigalpa polling sites. Before leaving on Monday, Nov. 19, they will hear an analysis of the election from a LIBRE leader.

With your help, Sister Cities will be able to cover the costs of the delegation for our MPR-12 delegates and continue our work in solidarity with the Salvadoran and Honduran social movements.
