The Salvadoran population points out two issues that should be a priority for President Nayib Bukele: serving migrant detainees in the southern United States and improving access and drinking water service. This is revealed by the evaluation survey of the first one hundred days of government conducted by the University Institute of Public Opinion of the Central American University (IUDOP), in which he received a rating of 8.37 in his first three months at the helm of the Executive.

People surveyed by IUDOP believe that the government has not defended the rights of migrants affected by the new provisions of Donald Trump’s immigration policy.

81% of the population believes that it is urgent that President Bukele ensure respect for the human rights of Salvadoran migrants who are being victims of abuse and abuse in US detention centers.

President Bukele, to date, has not addressed the issue. Contrary to that, it has yielded to all the requests of the US government. As for example, he approved the creation of the Salvadoran border patrol that seeks to curb migration from the Central American North Triangle. The unit is made up of agents from the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners and the Police that monitor border points.

WATER

The service provided by the National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA) is another shortcoming of the new government. 40.4% of the population maintains that the supply of drinking water remains the same and 19.8% say it is getting worse, and 16.3% of the population says they do not have ANDA service, according to the IUDOP survey.

Drinking water service is irregular or non-existent in dozens of Salvadoran neighborhoods and communities. To date, the new government has not revealed the situation of the rivers that supply ANDA’s tanks and wells.

Representative of the Water Forum of El Salvador intended to request last June the technical report on the condition of the aquifers in the country; however, they were blocked by security personnel from the ANDA headquarters that did not allow them to enter the public information office within this autonomous.
