Thanks to the donations made to our fundraising due to the COVID crisis and tropical storms Amanda and Cristóbal, The U.S.- El Salvador Sister Cities Network was able to raise 19,763 dollars that have been used for the organization and delivery of food kits to communities affected in the five CRIPDES regions. The Cambridge, Binghamton and Bangor committees also organized their own fundraising that amounted to $5,080.

In some regions, the amount has helped organizational and logistical work that has become more difficult due to confinement and lack of public transportation. At the central office, the funds have been used to cover travelling expenses of the Board of Directors to continue the organizational work in the midst of the pandemic and for the purchase of cleaning materials and equipment. The amount allocated to Sister Cities will also be used for organizing work. The funds of our organization have been more limited this year due to the impossibility of bringing delegations to El Salvador.

Sister Cities believes in transparency and accountability in all sectors. Therefore, we share how the funds have been distributed in different areas:

This is the way Sister Cities works. We know the importance of grassroots organizing to respond to injustices and abuses of power. This work is still needed in the current context (perhaps even more). We still need the help of everyone who believes in an informed and organized civil society. Gracias a las donaciones hechas para nuestra recaudación de fondos con motivo de la crisis de COVID y las tormentas Amanda y Cristóbal, la red de Ciudades Hermanas El Salvador – Estados Unidos pudo recaudar 19,763 dólares que han servido para la organización y entrega de alimentos a comunidades afectadas en las cinco regiones de CRIPDES. Los hermanamientos de Cambridge, Binghamton y Bangor también hicieron una recaudación propia que, en total, ascendió a $5,080 dólares.

 

En algunas regiones, el monto ha ayudado a las tareas organizativas y logísticas que se volvieron más difíciles debido al confinamiento y la falta de transporte público. En la oficina central, los fondos se han utilizado para cubrir gastos de transporte de la Junta Directiva para continuar el trabajo organizativo del movimiento social en medio de la pandemia y para la compra de materiales y equipos de limpieza. El monto destinado a Ciudades Hermanas será utilizado igualmente para las tareas de organización. Los fondos de nuestra organización se han visto más limitados durante este año por la imposibilidad de traer delegaciones a El Salvador.

Esta es la manera en que Ciudades Hermanas trabaja. Sabemos la importancia del trabajo organizativo de base para responder ante las injusticias y los abusos de poder. Este trabajo sigue siendo necesario en las circunstancias actuales. Seguimos necesitando la ayuda de toda persona que crea en una sociedad civil informada y organizada.
