Updates on Teosinte (Dec 2018)

Last weekend, the Arlington committee had a call with four members of the Teosinte board, Adela, Humberto, Rosa and the president José.

During the call they shared several things happening in the community, such as the following:

The medicine provided by the committee was already handed to the health promoter and they use it at the local clinic.

18 women are still working at the bakery

Youth are working in apiarian project.

There is a project of political school. In the last one, there were 18 attendants.

Through the mayor’s office, they have presented a water project to the Investment Fund for local Development (FISDL, in Spanish). The community has been trying to make this happen for 15 years. They even elected a new “water committee”, comprised of 7 members.

The youth committee of CCR, has also supported the local youth group “Ana Francisca por un Espíritu Libre” (AFEL) with workshops and materials. Its representative Jaime Monge has also led workshops with the youth from the area.

Other projects they have been developing are reforestation and recycling initiatives.

Towards the end, the board invited Stephanie Koontz and the rest of the committee to return to the community as soon as possible…and, as Sister Cities, we would be happy to see that happening in 2019!
