Sister Cities
Sistering and Pueblo-to-Pueblo Solidarity
Since the 1980’s, Sister Cities has built people-to-people solidarity relationships between the United States and El Salvador. These relationships are the foundation upon which we work for human rights, social and economic justice, and cultural exchange. This important work only happens through hundreds of dedicated volunteers in cities around the United States who maintain sister city relationships with Salvadoran communities.
There are 17 sister city committees in the Midwest and East Coast. Each committee has a different structure and focus. Among our network we have one radio, one organic farming association and many groups of solidarity activists committed to connecting issues in their sister communities with the issues in their communities. Our committees support the work of CRIPDES’ regional organizing staff, high school and college scholarship programs and local development and organizing projects in their sister communities.
