Come to the Sister Cities 2009 National Gathering: Oct 10 and 11 in Chicago

We in Sister Cities, hope you will come to Chicago for the annual National Gathering on Columbus Day weekend next month, October 10th and 11th. With our network scattered across the country, this is the one time each year that we all have the chance to gather together in person. We look forward with great pleasure to welcoming back those who have been to National Gatherings before, and we especially look forward to welcoming and getting to know those attending a gathering for the first time.

The National Gathering is a great place to share experiences, to support, and to accompany one another in our sistering work. The gathering is the time we do the collective work of creating our plans for the network for the upcoming year. We’ll have the opportunity to ground our plans in a clear insightful analysis of the present context in El Salvador from representatives of our sister organization CRIPDES, and to sharpen our own understanding of the present moment in the U.S.

After the National Gathering, Sister Cities committees are organizing and participating in two simultaneous speaking tours. Rosa Centeno Valle, President of CRIPDES, will be speaking in the Midwest, hosted by a number of Sister City committees and universities.

Also in October, a second, simultaneous speaking tour featuring the National Table Against Mining in El Salvador, of which CRIPDES is a member, as they are awarded the Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award in Washington, D.C., will be visiting the Eastern United States and Canada.
