Another community update – COVID19

We keep trying to communicate with the community boards of our sistered communities to learn how everything is unfolding during the COVID19 pandemic.

 

Our friends in El Papaturro state that:

The community board handed flyers and a mask in each household, so they have one to go shopping their groceries. They feel optimistic because they have their own crops of corn and beans, although they recognize that things, later on, could get more complicated when trying to fulfill their basic needs or to get other kind of food.

Most of the elders receive their pension and that is helping the families.

Those who had a job are no longer leaving the community and, during the weekend, they were going to organize a checkpoint for those leaving and returning to the community.

 

Our friends in Arcatao share:

Everybody is doing fine. Shops are still open and the mayor’s office organized a cleaning and sanitization campaign at the park and near-by stores on Friday.

 

In the meantime, we happily share that mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has expressed her solidarity with the community by sending a formal letter that we have already translated and sent to the community board:
