2022 Speaking tour

(EN ESPAÑOL ABAJO)

As previously mentioned, we are preparing a small tour and we are finalizing some details with the help of friends and committees in the United States.

The two speakers will be our very own Zulma Tobar and CRIPDES’ president Lorena Araujo.

Lorena Araujo is the current president of the Association for the Development of El Salvador, CRIPDES (U.S- El Salvador Sister Cities’ partner organization in El Salvador). She joined the people’s struggle since she was very young, in which the main demand from the people was access to land for campesinos. When the civil war broke out in the 80s, Lorena got involved in the work CRIPDES was doing with displaced Salvadorans. CRIPDES promoted community organizing work in different refuges in El Salvador and beyond the Salvadoran borders. She accompanied refugees in their return to their places of origin to continue the struggle for social justice. Since that time, she has been part of different decision-making spaces promoting the defense of human rights, community organizing and environmental justice.

Zulma Tobar is one of the El Salvador staff of US-El Salvador Sister Cities. She works on issues of education, environmental justice, advocacy and community organizing with rural communities of El Salvador through USESSC and the Association for the Development of El Salvador, CRIPDES. Zulma comes from an organized rural community, Cinquera, one of the most tumultuous areas during El Salvador’s Civil War. She has experienced at first hand the importance of being organized for the development of a community. Zulma was a university scholarship recipient supported by the sister committee of Chicago, IL. through USESSC.
