Political Prisoners’ Letter From Jail – July 18, 2007

by Lorena Martinez, Rosita Valle, and Haydee Chicas

Hello friends,

Greetings of solidarity for all of you from this new place of struggle, we hope we will not be here long, but are ready to continue struggling.

We want to tell you that we remember each one of you in the different moments in which we converse about the daily work of the office.  We remember the jokes we tell, the ways we laugh, and the anecdotes.  We also remember all the load of work of visiting the communities, the over saturation of work in the office and the tight agenda that we all have …always continue doing this our work.  Right now we are raising awareness with the women prisoners.  The women that are here with us for different common causes have great hopes about what we can do for the incarcerated population.  Specifically, since the denouncements that we have made about the high costs of the products in the prison stores.  Already they are authorizing considerable reductions in costs, in some cases as much as $.50 per product.  The women that had not imagined the power of organized struggle are now saying “we are surprised by these changes!”

Also, there are moments when we remember other friends who have experienced prison for their participation in the social struggle.

Our evaluation is that this backfired on the government, and it seems they have gotten themselves into a trap, imagine how they feel now with our capture we are certain that many, many people are indignant.

We trust in God and you all, in the People and in international solidarity that soon we will be with you working for human rights with more strength than ever, because we are seeing first hand with what happens to us the injustice that occurs every minute in this place and in this country.

With much love, greetings to everyone.

See you soon,

Lorena, Rosita, Haydee
