Marianella Community Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Repopulation

Marianella community celebrated its 30th anniversary of repopulation. The week was packed with different activities that the Junta Directiva of the community and the committees put together to keep alive the spirit of community, solidarity, and most importantly, organization. From February 23rd to March 3rd, community members gathered at the main soccer field to share the happiness of seeing themselves as an organized community that has gotten many achievements since its repopulation in February 27th, 1989.
The youth group, women´s group and every single person in the community participated every day in the festivities that the Junta Directiva organized. They had a gallery of historic pictures of the community. They also showed a movie that talks about the importance of taking care of the environment, but the most exciting activity was the bicycle race.
This community was named after a woman that fought and offered her life for the Salvadoran people, Marianella García Villas. The community will be commemorating her life this March 14th, at the place where she was assassinated.
Marianella community is sistered with the city of Wichita (Kansas) since June 1990.
La comunidad de Marianella celebró su 30 Aniversario de Repoblación. Fue una semana llena de diferentes actividades que la Junta Directiva junto con los diferentes comités de la comunidad organizaron para mantener vivo el espíritu de comunidad, solidaridad y lo mas importante de organización. Desde el 23 de febrero hasta el 3 de marzo, la comunidad se reunía en la cancha de fútbol para compartir la felicidad de verse como una comunidad organizada que ha alcanzado muchos logros desde su repoblación el 27 de febrero de 1989.
El grupo de jóvenes, de mujeres y todas las personas en la comunidad participaron cada en las festividades que la Junta Directiva había preparado. Tuvieron una galería de fotos históricas de la comunidad, también presentaron una película que hablaba sobre la importancia del cuido del medio ambiente, y la actividad mas emocionante fue la carrera de bicicletas.
La comunidad fue nombrada en honor a la mujer que luchó y ofrendó su vida para el pueblo salvadoreño, Marianella García Villas. Por tanto, esta comunidad estará conmemorando su vida este 14 de Marzo en el lugar donde fue asesinada.
La comunidad de Marianella ha estado hermanizada y en solidaridad con Wichita, Kansas, desde Junio de 1990.
