Fact Finding Delegation on Cabanas Repression: February 6- 14th

Join our allies from Voices on the Border in a Fact Finding Delegation to the municipality of Cabanas from February 6-14th 2010.

Since June 2009, three anti-mining activists have been assassinated, and numerous others have been attacked or received death threats. To date, the police have failed to appropriately investigate the attacks and threats, or protect those who remain in danger.

By participating in this delegation, you will play an important role in gathering information about the recent violence toward environmental activists and accompany organizations at risk.

The delegation will meet with civil society leaders from the Salvadoran Anti-Mining Table and activists in Cabañas to get detailed accounts of the situation and discuss how the international community can best respond.   The Delegation will meet with the Ombudsman for Human Rights, the Attorney General’s office, police officials, and representatives from the Funes Administration to discuss the investigation.  The delegation will produce a preliminary report of its findings with recommendations about how to bring those responsible to justice.

Cost: $760 plus airfare (includes food, in-country ground transportation, hotel costs, and translation services)
Dates: February 6-14, 2010
