On Thursday February 12, Salvadoran Newspaper El Diario de Hoy reported that Antonio Bolainez, one of President Obama’s  ten Spiritual Advisors,  called on members of the Evangelical Church to think seriously about their vote “in order to not bring El Salvador to its destruction” with a “radical left regime that favors Venezuela and Irani terrorism”  Bolainez was quoted as saying, “at some moments these groups seem to be the moderate left in Latin America, but the truth is that they are not moderate.”

Bolainez is the Vice President of the National Coalition of Latino Christian Ministers (Conlami) in the U.S. According to Fox News, he is one of  20 spiritual advisors that Obama named around the country upon receiving the Democratic Nomination for President.

Christian news sources report that Bolainez is also a candidate for the “Inter-religious committee of the White House,” which, principally, has the job of “advising the President-elect on subject of faith, abortion and same-sex marriage.”

There is no mention, in the role of Spiritual Adviser or Member of the Inter-Religious Committee of the White House, that Spiritual Advisers should advise Obama on Central American policy, nor espouse to be the voice of United States policy in Central America.

Bolainez’sstatements are in direct contradiction to recent statements by Charles Glazer, US Ambassador to El Salvador under the Bush administration, who said, “What you won’t see, however, is the U.S. taking sides in these elections. We will respect the Salvadoran people’s sovereign right to choose their next leaders.”

Some believe that President Obama named Spiritual Advisers such as Bolainez during his presidential campaign after the scandal regarding his connection to Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and in order to cultivate the Evangelical vote in the U.S.

Lorena Martinez, the President of the Association of Rural Communities for the Development of El Salvador CRIPDES, said “This is an example of intervention in our election. It is important that US citizens tell their Congresspeople and the Obama administration about their concern regarding these statements.
