Update III: CRIPDES Communities Affected by the Tropical Storm 12 E

La Libertad:

Families in the municipality of Comasagua are still being evacuated. Last night and in the early dawn today 375 more people were evacuated from communities that were in areas at risk for landslides.

Northern San Salvador:

The regional branch of CRIPDES (UCRES) is reporting that they have had to evacuate 75 families (311 people) from in the municipality of El Paisnal. They are currently housed in 4 temporary shelters in the area.

UCRES is still worried about the increasing number of health problems, specifically in children, related to the fact that the potable water system for a number of communities has been damaged and is filled with mud.  The mayor’s office is bringing drinking water to communities in trucks, but is having difficulty keeping up with the demand.

San Vicente:

The Red Cross, Government agencies and Armed Forces continue evacuating families from the Lower Lempa region of San Vicente. There are still people in La Pita, Los Naranjos, Puerto Nuevo and Santa Marta being rescued.  Many of the evacuations are being done by boat through what were cornfields or down flooded roads because that is the only way to access the communities

There are still about 55 people in Las Anonas that have not been evacuated.

Emergency aid is urgently needed. CRIPDES, alone, estimates it will need $283,323 in order to respond to this emergency.  Please donate today.
