“The U.S. detained and expelled five times more Salvadorans in 2021 than in 2020,” ElSalvador.com reported earlier this year. Not even the COVID pandemic stopped the flow of people into the United States.
The migrations project funded by Cornell and with the participation of a team from the University of Ithaca has tried to address the issue in different ways: First, by supporting agricultural workshops in the San Vicente area (right to stay and work with one’s land) and second, by collecting various testimonies from people to put a face to the Central American migration phenomena. This group of migrants was cruelly demonized by the Trump administration, but their treatment has not improved drastically during the Biden administration. The reception of these by the general public is notably different from that offered to people seeking refuge from Europe.

El proyecto de migraciones financiado por Cornell y con participación de equipo de la universidad de Ithaca ha intentado abordar el tema en diferentes formas: Primero, apoyando talleres productivos en la zona de San Vicente (derecho a quedarse y trabajar en la tierra) y segundo, recolectando diversos testimonios de personas para ponerle cara a la migración centroamericana. Este grupo de migrantes fue cruelmente demonizado por la administración Trump, pero su trato no ha mejorado significativamente durante la administración Biden. La recepción de estos por la ciudadanía en general es notablemente distinta a la que se le brinda a personas que buscan refugio desde Europa.
