Meeting Carasque /Conociendo Carasque

Yesterday I had the chance to meet with old and new members of the board of Carasque, in the department of Chalatenango. Carasque’s sister city is Bangor (Maine).
This is a community that has constant communication with its sister city, despite the technical difficulties due to the signal in that mountainous area.
One of the most interesting things they shared with me is the existence in the area of the Migrant Committee. In their meetings, people that have migrated can share their stories and the difficulties they faced when they left or when they returned. The new president of the board, Francisco Saúl Pineda, told me that it was an opportunity for him to hear from people from Honduras that have come to our country and hear the difficulties they face here as well, since they don’t have documents or they have to suffer discrimination and agressions when people tell them they are coming to “take their jobs”, making more evident how important is to acknowledge the difficulties migrants face everywhere and how important is to show solidarity to them.
El día de ayer tuve la oportunidad de reunirme con miembros salientes y entrantes de la junta de Carasque, en el departamento de Chalatenango. Carasque es una comunidad hermanizada con Bangor (Maine).
Esta es una comunidad que se encuentra en constante comunicación con su ciudad hermana, a pesar de las dificultades con la señal de los teléfonos en esa área montañosa.
Una de las cosas más interesantes que me compartieron es la existencia de un Comité del migrante en el área. En él, personas que han migrado cuentan sus historias y las dificultades que enfrentaron al ir o al regresar. El nuevo presidente de la junta, Francisco Saúl Pineda, me comentó también que, para él fue una oportunidad de escuchar las historias de hondureños que han venido a nuestro país y conocer las dificultades que ellas y ellos enfrentan, al carecer de documentos o aguantar discriminación y agresiones cuando otros les dicen que vienen a robar sus trabajos, haciendo más evidente cuán importante es que reconozcamos las dificultades que enfrentan las personas migrantes en todas partes y cuán importante es mostrarles solidaridad.
