A Greeting from CRIPDES on its 25th Anniversary: July 2009

Message from CRIPDES National Board

Companeros and Companeras of the CRIPDES board, delegates from the five regions of CRIPDES, Companeros from popular organizations and friends from solidarity and cooperation organizations, please receive the most fraternal and communal greeting from the Association for the Development of El Salvador CRIPDES.

In July 2009, CRIPDES celebrates 25 years of work accompanying thousands of families in defense of their most basic rights, promoting community organizing in 250 communities in 7 of the 14 departments of El Salvador. Along with coordinating in 40 municipalities, we have collaborated with various organizations that complement us in the execution of our work.

We are confident when we say that we have strengthened community organizing, as organizing is the fundamental social fabric that leads to the empowerment of the population, in order to struggle for the population’s most important demands and to build popular power as the guarantee for economic, political, social and cultural transformations.

On this 25th anniversary, we affirm that we have successfully completed the goals that we originally proposed: to promote citizen participation and activism in public politics, to promote leadership and empowerment in the communities, to develop the capacity to make decisions and solicit funding. The accumulated results of these 25 years of work demonstrate the perseverance and leadership of the men and women who have worked to create changes in our country, which has been done through the tireless struggle for the respect and promotion of human rights, access to basic services and the democratization of El Salvador.

The Salvadoran people suceeded in electing a government of hope and popular unity in the recent municipal and legislative elections on January 18th and the presidential elections on March 15th. We hope that we can significantly advance the democratization of our country and work to benefit the most vulnerable population. We should accompany this government so that it can complete the work program that it proposed to the country, that had massive support from the population.

CRIPDES congratulates and thanks all of the rural communities, the leaders, the technical and administrative support, the national and international solidarity and cooperation, the municipalities and the friendly social organizations for their unconditional support to this process of change that the Salvadoran people so much deserve. And thanks for continuing with this commitment so that together, we can contribute to the full development of the communities and the population in general.
