Willie has been a peace and justice activist for decades. Latin America, and particularly El Salvador, have always been of interest to him. Willie joined the MOFGA- CCR/CORDES Sister Cities group in 2004 and went on his first delegation to El Salvador in 2005. That first trip had a lasting effect upon him that completely turned his life in a new direction. He became involved on the national level of Sister Cities in 2005 by joining the Finance Committee.

In 2007 he started working at WERU-FM radio and became a member of the WERU-Radio Sumpul Sistering Committee as well as MOFGA. Willie served as the Sister Cities Accounting Supervisor from 2012 to 2015 before becoming the temporary US Coordinator in late 2015 for six months.

Willie served as a Sister Cities Board member and Treasurer for two years and then took on the role of US Coordinator for real in December 2017. In 2022 he decided to step down and keep serving as board member.

He has a background of 40+ years in accounting and bookkeeping, using his skills working for a credit union, cooperatives, collectives and other nonprofits.
