Binghamton-El Charcon Sister City Project

Binghamton, NY

Suzanne Geoghegan : suzannegeo1@gmail.com

Since 1992 Binghamton has accompanied El Charcón from its beginnings as a band of refugee families squatting on public land during the civil war to what it is today – a vibrant, well-organized community working actively with CRIPDES to improve the quality of life for themselves and their children. While Binghamton has funded several infrastructure projects, the main focus of the sister city relationship has been education, and the support of the CRIPDES promoter who works with El Charcón and neighboring rural communities.
