Crystal Lake, Illinois is sistered with Chilama, La Libertad. The sister relationship was founded in 2002 after a devastating earthquake destroyed half of the homes in Chilama. The Crystal Lake committee helped the community of Chilama by supporting water-purification and latrine construction projects. They continue to support local programs that are dedicated to empowering women and youth and improving sanitation infrastructure.
