CRIPDES Allies Send a Greeting to US Solidarity, Dec 09

Tita Colunga of ProVida, a member of the MPR-12 Alliance, gave this speech to the CRIPDES-PROGRESO assembly in Suchitoto on December 9th.

Looking back at this year, there have been so many successes that we cannot forget. On March 15th, we elected our new government. And now, with our new government, how many people have to pay to go to the doctor? None. And when we go to the doctor, they dont send us away with a prescription, instead of medicine, because the clinics have medicine now.  Was the water privatized after July 2nd 2007? No, we won that battle. The government is building the maternity hospital, the government is supporting the schools, and the government is of the people!

And when the oligarchy organized the coup in Honduras in June, we came together in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Honduras. And I want to send a greeting to all of the US solidarity, to all of our North American brothers and sisters, for the advocacy work that they have done in the US this past year. Since the war, the US citizens have fought against the abuses that the US government is committing in Central America.

And we are so happy that our US solidarity, our brothers and sisters, continue to work against the coup in Honduras. A round of applause for our US solidarity! The US government that has been supporting the coup and legitimizing it. But our US solidarity is right there, in the stomach of the beast, fighting against it. We want our brothers and sisters to come to El Salvador to visit, but it is from the US that they can make the differences in US policy, fighting against the injustice.

So to our brothers and sisters in the US, I want to encourage you all to keep working with all of us, and keep fighting against injustice on the part of the US government.

Here in El Salvador, we have won the executive branch of the government. We will have to work to move forward and win the legislative branch in the future. And how will we do this? Through organizing!

We are full time revolutionaries. We cant say “I want to work for justice, but I cant in the evening, because I want to go home and watch TV.” We cant say “I want a just economic system, but I’m too tired to work for it, someone else should go to the meeting.” Our commitment to justice is full time, and we have to make that commitment today, starting now. Thank you all very much for all of your work!
